Meet Michelle!

Hi everyone! I'm Michelle, President of the Arapawa Goat Breeders Association and owner of Newbury Farms! My small farm is located in Newtown, CT, where I raise heritage and rare breed poultry and sell fun farm apparel online (some may know me as the "FLOCKBOSS" or "GOATBOSS!"). I also teach people about homesteading in their backyards with local classes like: Raising Chickens for Beginners, Raising Goats, and Making Natural Soap & Lotion. It's a far cry from my previous career in law enforcement (still some yelling and complaining, mostly from the goats)! I left my State job to stay home and care for my two children (ages 7 & 9), both of whom have medical issues (food allergies and autoimmune issues). By taking control of the food we raise (organically-grown, non-GMO farm fresh eggs, poultry, and produce, and raw goat milk), we've experienced the power of clean eating and significant improvements in our family's overall health. I always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian...now I just do it for free as a goat midwife, chicken medic, pig massage therapist...

In 2016, I began my search for the perfect homestead goat and Arapawas fit the bill in every way: mid-size, friendly, healthy and hardy, great for novices, excellent dams, and good for milking! We started our Arapawa herd in 2017 with our founding trio of does and have been growing our herd ever since! It's always so amazing to witness kids being born each season and we consider ourselves lucky to have free goat entertainment each day, especially during this crazy pandemic! When I'm not caring for my family or farm friends, I enjoy reading and spending time outdoors in nature. I'm so grateful for the friendships I've made through the AGBA and excited for the Association and what's to come in 2021 and beyond! Feel free to reach out to me anytime: newburyfarms11@gmail.com and follow along with our farm adventures on Instagram @newburyfarms and Facebook: Newbury Farms LLC.
